Introduction to Research

What is research?

The process to discover new knowledge is called research.  It is a systematic investigation (i.e., the collection and analysis of information) to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge. Research is based on the Scientific Method (systemic process)

The Scientific Method is based on observing a particular phenomenon and creating a hypothesis about the relationships of various variables. A hypothesis can be defined as an informed and calculated prediction or explanation about something. In the research process, the hypothesis is tested and then examined the results as they relate to both the hypothesis and the world around. When a researcher forms a hypothesis, it guides the researcher on which factor is important and how they might relate to each other. through this, the researcher can interpret the information and can produce sound conclusions based on the results.

Research is done on human beings, animals, plants, or any phenomenon. However, in the case of human beings and animals, it must follow specific rules about their treatment. This ensures the dignity and respect of the subject, and that the research causes no harm.

The value of the research is based on its design and composition. The design or plan of research draws a map and course of action for the research. The researcher's role is to maintain the research line of action according to the set plan.
